The coolest cars for less than £10,000

Fiat's Panda has always been like one of those Italian fridges. No, not Smeg. An Indesit maybe: ultra-cheap, ultra-functional and just a little bit cool. The all-new Panda arrives in the UK in February 2012, guaranteed to cost under £10k. It looks like a rounded version of the old-shape Panda, which in the meantime you can pick up for as little as £6,295 if you look around.

Shame that none of the pictures relate to the sub-£10k cars.  For £10k you really do get the bargain-basement models, with few frills, if you're buying brand new.

You could, however, get a pre-reg car which gives you a better spec at a lower price.

I've done this three times now and, to be honest, the fact that you're the second owner on a no-mileage car means very little when you trade in.

People who insist on the latest "12" plate cars, whatever the price, really do have money to burn.

I think the author's definition of cool needs reviewing.

Kate - spend £9,900 on the Alfa  -  keep £100 back for AA membership....Wink

Also - the plus thing about motors with no air con / leccy windows / heated seats / central locking etc...... is there's less to go wrong on them!

Cool cars?? so cool they leave me cold!

Or is it a competition to produce the ugliest car?

My 10 grand would be spent on a second hand alfa Romeo EVERY TIME!!

I'm quite shocked there isn't anymore cars on this list. As I can name a few more.Toyota Yaris, Kia Picanto, Nissan Micra, Honda Jazz, Audi A1 and the Citroen C3

Looks a really good very small car. Pity about the bonnet. I reckon it looks a bit like a slug, so I tend to refer to them as slugs!

Am a satisfied Toyota owner. Our first Yaris managed 167000 before a small a fault justified trading it in for another Yaris.

I tried a citroen c1 / toyota aygo / peugeot 107,

They are all the same car under the skin I found mega blind spots on the front pillars the mirrors need setting up carefully to avoid blind spots and the whole cabin seems dark and claustrophobic but the mpg is verry good

I hope Kate knows a good auto electrician

although Italian cars and motorbikes may look super cool be warned their electrics are suspect

Alfas Fiats and the Ducati motorcycle all suffer major electrical breakdown

I know from first hand experience

leave well alone unless you are prepared to have one rewired and frequently replace electrical components

Just Bought a new Renault Twingo I am impressed at its hot hatch looks and the fact that it betters my previous car in  acceleration reducing nought to sixty two by a whopping 2.7 seconds without braking the bank on insurance road tax and petrol

my only criticism is that you do not get much kit for your money but then again maybe weight is a factor in delivering better acceleration and fuel economy

OVERALL WELL DONE RENAULT

Last June I bought a new Toyota Aygo I am happy to run it round town and it delivers a good mpg (better than I've ever had in 35 years of ownership).  I don't take it out of town unless I have to, so I made the right choice (could have looked at the Micra).  Always I pay more for my new cars and trust that low mileage will retain value as I drive automatics only, the only downside to this is I can't take any job that will not let me use my own car for work.
