It's a well-established fact that modern footballers aren't short of a bob or two. Research by the High Pay Centre think-tank has shown that the wages of top players have increased by an incredible 1,500% over the last 50 years. Compare that to an average increase in pay for the non-football-playing population of 186% and it becomes clear how proficiency with the old pig's bladder now has the potential to set you on the road to unimaginable riches.

With incomes on this giant scale, footballers are presented with a host of problems that never trouble the rest of us. Chief amongst them is what to do with the huge reserves of cash sloshing around their bank accounts.

Here at MSN Cars we know what we'd do if somebody handed us a five-year contract worth £100,000 a week. We'd buy lots of cars. So in an effort to help Premier League stars out of their predicament, we've come up with car recommendations for the players involved in the biggest football deals of recent times based on the huge sums they're reputed to be earning each week.

Footballers and their cars

Cars footballers should NOT buy!  Until they learn to grow up in the first instance and then learn to drive a 1100cc car, gradually moving their way up to a 2ltr engined vehicle, and then, and only then, if experienced enough, should they even consider buying something like these cars illustrated!

Crazy article!

Spending a week's salary on a car doesn't really work - for the vast majority of us.

If we did we'd have a car that doesn't really work.

no get it right the cars footballers should not buy because they have not worked for them and sports is not a job its something we all do but the few are over paid for doing nothing and working for nothing.

If the fans had any sense footballers wouldnt be driving any of these fancy cars.  That is because the terraces would not be full of low paid, and in some cases unemployed people, paying multi-millionaires to play with a ball.

Make footballer's insurance about 100k/week and they can drive the same ole same ole as everybody else.

I would happily pay RVP 300K a week, he is so clinical. His abilities are priceless..

Tony, why not a Trabant?

Cheap, nasty, plastic and full of s**t but you can fix it with a hammer.

This article is terribly wrong. Just because RVP earns £200k a week, it DOESN'T mean he'll be able to buy a 458 every week because he has to pay tax (however little that may be), so he wouldn't have £200k put in his bank.
Assuming he paid tax like everyone else (doubtful), his take-home would be £96,434.45 after tax/NI.As said, it's doubtful he would be paying the regular rates and probably has an accountant doing some shifting of funds to avoid a fair bit of tax, but what MSN is quoting and suggesting here is inaccurate and plain daft...
