Buying and owning a car doesn't just hinge on how a vehicle drives - it's about the whole experience, from the minute you walk into the showroom to the dealer's service and their ability to rectify any problems you might have post-haste.

Here, in reverse order, are the top 10 manufacturers that please their patrons the most, according to the 2012 JD Power Dealer Satisfaction Survey. Following the top performers are the brands whose dealer customer service leaves something to be desired.

The study analysed which dealerships had the most friendly, helpful staff, the cleanest, most comfortable facilities and the highest quality of workmanship, according to the people who matter most - their customers.

I've had Fords and Audis, the aftersales of both makes in my town has been excellent.

But just try to buy a car from either of them and it's a totally different attitude.

The Ford dealership are welcoming enough, take all the detals, appraise my PX, and promise to get back to me with a firm offer - 4 times I gave them first dibs over 15 years - never got back to me once.

The Audi sales staff treat you like you're something that they've just stepped in.

It's not like I'm messing with them, coz I turn up for servicing in new cars that I've bought from other dealerships.

My wife and I walked into a Volvo dealership   in Shrewsbury, was ignored whilst we stood in the showroom, when a salesman decided to get up from behind his desk He seemed disinterested and when I asked for keys to sit in a volvo c60 he grunted and wandered off to find the keys, we stood there for aver 5 minutes then turned and walked out .....  went down to the Ford dealer and was welcomed at the door and offered coffee ......  vell done Furrows

mercedes benz .... 5th .......... really ?

must be just the chelmsford in essex dealership that provides a less than adequate after sales then

the sales are obviously very good but try to get an answer from the other teams is almost non existent and once sorted out you get a very weak apology

certainly very slow to deal with one problem that i had

7 months ffs

The best has to be Marshalls' Toyota of Peterborough.

I'm on My 10 Ford.  No problems of any sort apart from a couple of very small ones that the dealership fixed in a few minutes, My Local Dealer is very good and customer service is excellent.

I,ve got a renault 1500 diesel grand Modus  and the best service I've ever had is from Trenton motors in Hull.

The service manager cannot do enough to please his customers. the car may not be the most luxurious of cars  but it does everything I need, looks good and returns 65 mpg in town with a good rate of acceleration if needed.
