A generation of Gran Turismo game players know that Cadillac's Cien is an epically quick machine. Built to celebrate Cadillac's 100th birthday in 2002, the Cien bristled with supercar superlatives: a carbonfibre chassis and body, 750bhp V12 engine, paddle-shift gearbox, even night vision.

Designed by a British stylist, Simon Cox, and built by Prodrive of Banbury, it was a pukka fully functioning prototype. Lauded by all who saw it, General Motors shut its ears to the plaudits and refused to put it into production.
