Few cars can claim to have been funded by the profits made selling underwear, but here's one: the Jiotto Caspita. Sponsored by Japanese lingerie manufacturer Wacoal and engineered by the Dome racing car outfit, the Caspita was meant to bring a Formula 1 driving experience to the road.

At its 1989 Tokyo Motor Show debut, it was fitted with a 3.5-litre flat-12 450bhp Formula 1 engine (as developed by Motori Moderni and Subaru). A 200mph top speed and 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds were claimed and a $650,000 price tag announced. Sadly the Caspita's pants were well and truly pulled down by the world economic downturn of 1992.
