Porsche has finally revealed official images of the all-new 991 Porsche 911, prior to its full world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Costing from £71,449 and arriving in the UK this December, it is a technology-packed masterpiece concealed between the latest evolution of those classic 1963 lines.

They reveal an evolutionary design (well, you wouldn't expect anything else, would you?) but with proportions and detailing better-honed than ever before.

Porsche has codenamed the new 911 '991' and has given it more powerful flat-six boxer engines: the base 3.4-litre produces 350hp, the regular 3.8-litre producing 400hp. Both are greener too. Cleverly, the body uses a mix of aluminium in its construction, a bit like the Audi TT. This reduces weight and ensure the new 911 is even faster.

Right, right and right again.  No pleasing some people.  Prefer an Ascari A10 myself!

Not many posters admit to having owned or own or even driven a 911 yet most think they are experts on the marque. You know diddley.

I have owned, own, and driven dozens of 911s from 1980 and can assure all you 'experts' as a drivers car it cannot be beaten, and yes i have owned and driven lot's of cars that try to be as good.

My deposit is placed at Porsche Bolton for one of the first convertibles in the region due early summer. I will let all you wanna bs know how good it is.

Now get back in your Mondeos and dream on.Open-mouthed

How can it be such an "Evolutionary Design" and still look like every other Porsche ever built? Boring, boring, boring.

Will you stop advertising the prig of petrol heads (Jeremy 'Rotherhamlad' Clarkson) and idiotic, sarcastic teachers. A 'new' car is a celebration for the company but for those who can't afford one or those who don't want one all is irrelevant puffery. I have to admit that l cannot afford one at the moment and what drew my attention to the hype was a simple image of a stylish car and associated adspeak from microsoft. In the back of my mind is the fantasy that one day l will drive one and another l may own one, but the way the Tories are handling the economy ensures that it will remain a fantasy.

Stupid arrogant people, So what if someone died in a porsche, people die in cars everyday, doesnt mean people stop buying them, thats like saying no one should fly a plane bcos of a crash that happened 70 years ago, Same old same old eyy? Well if porsche didnt continue their recognisable car looks then im sure that their trademark would be los., although i can already see some redesigns, Panamera style interior and rear end and the body panels have been redesigned none the less, people who haven't driven a porsche wouldn't understand the porsche thing, Im sure you people who criticise wouldn't be able to hit the same sales figures as porsche have, so stick to your citreon saxos.

... "Didn't James Dean die in a 911? Not exactly a great thing to recommend it." ...

Yes, James Dean died in a Porsche.

No, It was not a 911, it was actually a 550 Spider.

The 550 was more of a dedicated racer than it was a road car, and Dean had very little experience driving this car as he had just bought it.  Not that it matters though, it wasn't as if he had lost control of the car; some poor guy was turning off the highway and crossed directly in to Dean's path - who was unable to stop in time to avoid his fatal accident.

As for the new 911, Front end reminds me of the Ferrari 360, and they have gone to far in streamlining.

I don't have high hopes for the performance either.  I suspect it will be faster, but longer wheelbases typically do not lend themselves to cornering performance (think Lotus Exige vs. Viper).

Appears like Porsche is moving towards highway cruising comfort and away from canyon carver.

Maybe the 'Longer, Wider, Lower' manta of the American car makers of the early 70's is still too strong in my memory.  Too many small and nimble-ish cars grew in gross proportions to improve ride comfort and highway stability, but did nothing but destroy cornering ability  (the Mustang springs to mind; from the race dominating 67's to the land yacht 73's).

Not a welcome direction in my books.

Yaaawn...What a boring looking car....I do love these cars...They were once beautiful to look at, but now when I look at one all I see is laziness and lack of any imagination from the developers and designers...Great cars to drive, but would never buy one..  Come on Porsche; for once surprise us and design something new.

The fact it looks the same as the last one and the one before that are what makes them so popular.

porsche could go back to the design of 25 to 30 years ago and they would still sell.

So, what we have here is a 911. Same old, same old. Same old stunning good looks, same old superb performance. If you've never driven one, sat in one or stood next to one (and I mean any kind of supercar!) you really have no idea of the beauty they have. Porsche lovers will love it, Clarkson will hate it and the majority of us posting here will continue to drive our own car.....which more than likely won't be that super at all!
