Some brands are letting their customers down, though, with below average customers satisfaction scores that are leaving thousands of British motorists sorely disappointed with their purchases.

Here, we have listed the worst brands for customer satisfaction in the 2012 JD Power Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Survey - and as well as the usual suspects, there are some surprise entrants in the below-average rankings.

I always liked the idea of an Alfa and owned a 156 a few years ago. The quality was quite obviously less than skin deep. Bits fell off that weren't massively well secured in the first place and unscheduled visits to the dealer were common and not cheap. I have recently had a look at and poked around a Giulietta and the quality still isn't there compared with my Audi or indeed with my Golf which followed the Alfa. Odd design lapses lead to the Alfa's engine compartment being constantly dirty from road muck ingress and on selling it it looked like a much older car. My 10 year old Golf on the other hand looked pretty sparkly in the engine bay and my 5 year old Audi still looks and feels brand new despite 72,000 miles.

Funny. My dad had two renaults, the Clio when it first came out and the Megane, 3 years owning each. No mechanical faults.

My second car which i had for two years was a Megane Coupe from 2001. No faults, also no faults apart from replacing a battery since manufacture.

I currently own a Citron C4 Coupe 2006. 35k millage, full service history from motability, and its had no faults. I think its safe to say, im bloody lucky!

No surprises with the worst for service.
French and Italian cars are well known for
poor quality and customer service.
Even the Japanese brands seem to be
falling behind, i have a Mazda 6 estate
for work, and have far too many irritating
problems with it.

Why are people getting so excited? it s a citroen!! I am sure they produce some very good cars but I've never liked the look or drive, maybe this bad press will make Citroen focus on the driver experience rather than bashing out cars at two a penny!

Indeed I wonder also where these reports come from. A combination of "fanboys" and hypercritical curmudgeons I suspect, with long obsolete received opinion playing its part as well

I have owned and driven Citroen cars for the past 24  years, and done many thousands of miles without any problem.
