London: £1.35
Rather than a straight percentage off the top, the UK has a straight tax per litre of fuel sold, which also varies depending on its type (i.e. petrol, diesel, natural gas) and use (fuel oil, rebated farm diesel). As of January 2011, the highest taxes are charged on regular petrol, and currently sit at 58p per litre.

Although chancellor George Osborne, has cancelled the tax 'escalator' on fuel, the effect of this has been more than offset by rising crude oil prices in recent months.

how can the british economy recover if wages are minimum and every thing we purchase is heavily taxed , once a powerful country gradually be reduced to a unimportant power in the world, come on wake up ? put wages up ,more money more spending ,stronger economy, then we gradually become the power we were and all those past and present have fought for..

I've seen recently that the price of petrol has been reduced again by 2p a litre but diesel hasn't, this is the 2nd time in a few months this has occurred so that now around here in Motherwell the price difference between petrol and diesel is 8p a litre. This to me is extortionate as despite all the arguments' of the fuel companies diesel is still cheaper to produce than petrol.....
