strange how we as a small country recycle more than the usa but our petrol prices are still higherBaring teeth

they pump toxic waste into the atmos at an alarming rate they use gas guzzling monsters to go shopping in and little old UK pays higher fuel prices and get the word RECYCLE rammed down our throat at every opportunity. odd eh.

Why did MSN only show a BMW concept as though it's still a pipe dream. The BMW efficiancydynamic models are already with us and have been in production since 2011. I have the 320d, with a 2 litre engine it's still good for 68.9 mpg, and produces Co2 of 109 g/km, which means road tax of £20 per year. Come on MSN and show it as it is, this is poor reporting.

The big problem is that the electric and hybrid cars are more damaging to the environment over their life cycle than the modern normal cars.  The batteries use highly toxic materials in their construction which have to be mined, refined and eventually got rid of, with the materials being non recyclable.  The wholly electric vehicles would mean that more power stations would have to be built to satisfy the demand and more cables would have to be laid to provide the recharging points, these using either copper or aluminium, both using earth resources.  The power would be provided by what? certainly not reusable energy as that could not cope, so we would have to build more gas, coal or nuclear stations.

The other argument that we should all become green is not, in the present environment, viable as it would cost more than the major countries could afford, to achieve and the emerging economies, including China, don't want as they have cheap coal - incidentally the US is a major polluter!

It should also be bourne in mind that the "green movement" is a multi billion $ business and so it is in it's protagonists benefit to push green as much as they can.  It is also interesting to remember that the earth is cyclic and has over its life, as found from the ice samples, heated up and cooled down, we assume that the time man has been around is the norm for the planet, in fact our sojourn on this planet has been thanks to a very abnormal stable phase of the planets temperature, weather system.

There is lots of talk about CO2 that we produce, in fact man produces only a small increase in the overall CO2 levels, cattle and sheep produce much more and the real winner? the Earth!  The gas that has much, much more impact on global temperatures and one that all the greenies keep quiet about is water vapour which has a far higher heat retention factor than CO2.  Why no screams and shouts about it? we can do damn all to prevent it!

It would make no difference at all if every one of us went out and bought an electric car tomorrow.
The robbing parasitic, lying, fraudsters that control our lives would then put a whopping great tax on electricity, because they would loose billions in fuel tax and VAT.
While countries such as China, India, America, will not cut their pollution, it would make no difference to the planet if this tiny insignificant island was totally green and produced no carbon footprint whatsoever. The large polluting countries will still continue to pollute and nothing will change. The grasping governments we get regardless of which party are in power, would continue to find ways of taxing ordinary working folk. while rewarding themselves and their rich cronies with all their fiddles, and bogus claims.

yet again the government creates a situation to get more money out of the british population " hints " are suggested that a tanker strike may happen and oh what a surprise they also suggest to all to stock up just in case just after the fuel prices had risen again , they blame it on the middle east situation but they pay a fraction for fuel compared to us in saudi arabia its only 12 pence a gallon for petrol so yet again the british have been lied to and robbed and they didnt even have to say " stand and deliver " it should be us blocking the petrol stations in protest for the prices, instead as per usual the brits are doing the right thing !!

Cant you people at MSN block all these women from advertising their dating sites ect. They are so annoying when trying to follow people's points and keep coming across  these dating adds.
I am sure you censor all comments before they are posted, so  surely you could erase these things before you allow them on these pages.

more tree huggers believing that man is the sole destroyer of the earth,  if things will save you money then fair enough,  but if poiple are going out and spending  alot extra on electric/hybrid cars to save the planet your doing nothing but damaging your wallet,  we could all drive around in electric cars from tommorow, it will make no difference, the planet will still warm, weather will get more exteme and things will get worse,  it will happen if no humans were alive, just a little slower

i think as i said in my earlier post... we  have just got to hope for the best because whatever we belive or think, nothing will change and we just have to hope mankind finds the "eco" solution before its to late. we have the tech, we have the knowledge, what we dont have is a company or government who will pay development costs which will be HUGE.

I want a nuclear powered car! If a nuclear submarine can travel around the world under water for months on end powered by nuclear rods then I want a car that has a single nuclear rod cell powering its engine! I don't mind if I need to pop into the garage ever year to have my nuclear rod replaced. Just think of the benefits, gone is the weekly £100 fill up with smelly old fuel! Gone is the the worry of traffic wardens slapping a ticket on your windscreen, (What brave traffic warden is going to even approach it!) You would have no problems negotiating traffic as you would have a police escort! You could press the pedal to the floor whenever you wanted and not have to worry about reaching the next garage! Wow! a nuclear turbo charger! 0 to 200 in 5 seconds! Yes! I want a nuclear powered car it might even help me see in the dark and when its life is over and it needs to be scrapped,  just press a button, run away very fast and boom! No more car! Move you idiot or I will press the button and run away!

Natalia nowak.
Don't get me started on the immigration issue, i agree with you.
And i like your nuclear powered car idea, got potential i reckon, i will give it some thought. Now if i could just find my mechano set  i might be able to come up with something, if i manage it though wouldn't be any good, coz i would cra****traight into the houses of parliament to sort them twistin, robbin, fraudulent, lying, parasitic s**mbags that hang out there for starters.

To Keith Jackson, I agree with your comments completely however it would make a substantial difference to the occupants of this tiny insignificent little island if we built a big no entry zone around it and allowed only its original occupants to occupy it! It would then be a kind of garden of eden, shangri la, an insignificant little island where the occupants where happy and could live life as they wanted!

sorry.... its not just a company or government that has to pay development costs, for the "solution" to work it has to be world wide.  IMPOSSIBLE with emerging economies powered by fossil fuel. are they going to hold back, re-think because of the global situation. not a chance. and to be fair if your an emerging used to be third world country, global bloody warming will be the very last thing on your agenda. its ok for western middle class people to worry about this issue, weve got time to debate and thrash the issue to death. maybe if we were from india or malaysia and were starting to see prosperety on the back of fossil fuel we would say FxxK global warming and would they be wrong?

@Russ Elias: I do beleave the same thing, Green tec is the only way forward.

@Andy Roberts: Its not a far flung assumption, The planet is in FACT burning up because of the human need for fossel fuels and one day you will relive your mistake on this matter, Its people like you thinking its aloads of bull **** that make the stupid dessitions to ignore the matter, As for the companys digging up the fuel in the first place Shame on them.

Only thing is fossel fuels will eventualy run out, Whats BP and Shell going to do then? Nothink because thats all they will be able to do, They should be looking into a new fuel sourse rather than going out finding new oil wells, And the only reason they wont is because they will become usless and the company will fall.

Paul Leverett saying something is a fact doesn't make it so, please show the evidence. Oh and use spellcheck. Thanks.
