Biography: Dan Trent

Learning his editorial craft in student media in Manchester, Dan moved to London where he worked for Dennis Publishing and contributed to Evo and Auto Express, among others. After helping to launch specialist title Mercedes Enthusiast and then going on to edit the magazine Dan has become something of an expert on the marque but has now diversified and broadened his automotive outlook beyond the three-pointed star. Equally at home with a camera as a keyboard, Dan contributes roadtests and features to MSN and a wide range of motoring publications. In November 2011 he was appointed editor of Pistonheads and as a result no longer contributes to MSN Cars. In December 2011 he was named BCA Features Writer of the Year in the annual Guild of Motoring Writers awards.

Current car: 1993 Mazda Eunos. "How much fun can a £1,200 car be? Plenty if my little Mazda is anything to go by, my impulse buy a case of putting my money where my mouth is having convinced various friends and family members to join the MX-5 fold."

All time favourite car: Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. "A two-day drive from Germany to London in a freshly restored Gullwing remains one of the highlights of my career so far. I'm just one lottery win away from owning one of my own..."
